Mazi Raz

Assistant Professor, Strategy

Mazi is an Assistant Professor and teaching scholar in the Strategy area group. He is a research fellow with the Innovation North Learning Lab and holds a PhD and MBA from Ivey. His research and teaching focus on the relationship between ideological trends and managerial thinking, and the role of human imagination in organizational life. His guiding motto is: “Human knowledge must be matched by a fearless trust in the unknowable.”

Mazi teaches Strategy, Systems Thinking, Advances in Strategic Thinking and Decision Making, and Power & Politics courses in Ivey's HBA, MBA, MSc and Executive Development programs. His current research project explores 'deep skilling' pedagogies for leaders, combining complexity orientation, foresight, and systems change. Mazi has held senior roles with The Ivey Academy, Sauder Executive Education at UBC, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Peter Lougheed Leadership Institute, and Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.

With expertise in curriculum and learning design, Mazi has created and delivered executive education programs since 2014. He has designed and taught programs for a range of organizations, including 3M, Alberta Health Services, London Health Science Centre, BC Automobile Association, Environment Canada, Treasury Board Secretariat, Marriott International, CIBC and CPA Ontario.

Originally Persian, Mazi emigrated in 1990 and has lived and worked in Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States. Before entering academia, he held senior management positions in industries such as aviation, media, and finance.
