Prof. Chris Ryan, Associate Professor in the Operations and Logistics division in the UBC Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia will be presenting:
"The Allure of Optimal"
Abstract: We explore the history and evolution of the concept of "optimal", dating to the mid-to-late 19th century, and its distinctive role in the development of management science thought.
Biography: Professor Chris Ryan is an Associate Professor in the Operations and Logistics division in the UBC Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia. He obtained my PhD in Management Science at the UBC Sauder School of Business, advised by Maurice Queyranne. Before joining UBC Sauder, he was an associate professor of operations management at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
His research is in optimization theory, game theory, contract theory, operations management, and video game design. His emerging areas of interest are: operations of education and development, small business operations, the history and philosophy of the science of management, and pedagogy for business education, including K-12.
