Paul Boothe, director of Ivey’s Lawrence National Centre for Policy and Management, lets the data speak for itself regarding the last three government’s fiscal management over the past two decades.

In part one of Boothe’s fiscal analysis, he compares and contrasts the fiscal program spending records of Chrétien, Martin and Harper.

“So what do the numbers say about the performance of the last three governments as fiscal managers?” asks Boothe. “Can any party or Prime Minister lay claim to being the best?”

Part two of Boothe’s breakdown looks at the political and economic conditions each Prime Minister faced while in office by examining minority governments, budgetary surpluses and net debt per capita.
