Jon Hantho

Jon Hantho, shown here speaking at the Character Matters conference in 2015, was a keynote speaker at the WVA Open.

Colin Yip attends Western University and is an Ivey Advanced Entry Opportunity student.

The Western Venture Association introduced its first flagship event, the WVA Open, on January 14, 2017.

Many entrepreneurs and leaders in Canada’s venture capital sector attended the event, including Jon Hantho, MBA ’89, Principal at Janus Advisory Services, former president and CEO of Maxxam Analytics, and a member of the Ivey Business School Advisory Board.

Drawing on his own experiences, Hantho offered his own insights into the meaning of entrepreneurship, letting delegates know that being an entrepreneur expands beyond technology. Instead, creating and promoting change in any context is the root of entrepreneurship.

He also provided advice to become a successful leader and entrepreneur. In particular, focusing on self-improvement, taking account of context, and doing what you love are keys to his own professional success.
