Denis A. Grégoire is a Full Professor in the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at HEC Montréal, where he also holds the Rogers J.A.-Bombardier Chair of entrepreneurship. His research centers on the cognitive processes influencing the identification of innovative ideas for new entrepreneurial ventures, entrepreneurs’ decision to expand their firm’s activities abroad, the choice of co-founders with whom to launch a new start-up, and the decisions and contribution of early-stage equity investors to the growth of high-potential ventures. He also likes to write and teach about research methods.
Denis obtained his Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Colorado Boulder (2005) and worked in the USA for several years before returning to Canada: "HEC-Montreal has been a fantastic place to develop new skills and pursue my career!" In addition to conducting research and teaching courses in technology entrepreneurship, Denis served two three-year mandate as an Associate Editor of the Academy of Management Journal (2019-2022 and 2022-2025). He remains a member of this journal’s editorial board, and in addition to ad-hoc reviews, serves on the boards of Academy of Management Discoveries, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, the Journal of Business Venturing, the Journal of Management Studies, and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, and is on the Scientific Committee for the French Revue de l’entrepreneuriat. He was twice elected to serve as Representative-at-large for the Academy of Management’s Entrepreneurship Division (2017-2020 and 2020-2022).
Denis contributed to two programs led by HEC Montréal’s Executive Education to support the growth of high-potential science- and technology-based ventures. He notably served as Director of Programs for CDL-Montréal (2017-2024) and as Academic Director for NEXT AI’s business curriculum (2018-2023).
Denis is a proud father of two young adults. He blames them for his white hair but knows they will turn out ok – thanks to their mum!
