Manjit Minhas, the entrepreneur behind Minhas Breweries and Distillery, will join the hit CBC show Dragons’ Den this year.
The company is one of the largest Canadian-owned breweries, with a unique kind of hybrid vertical integration. Minhas Breweries and Distillery uses in-house services to keep costs down: a graphics shop for designing labels, a video production company to film and produce commercials, a glass manufacturer to craft the bottles, and more.
Ivey Assistant Professor Andreas Schotter sees this method as a logical strategy, as outside service providers may be too wrapped up with the demands of the industry big names, like Labatt and Molson.
