Marijuana is in the spotlight after two retail giants, Shoppers Drug Mart and London Drugs, said they believe medical marijuana should be distributed through pharmacies.
Assistant Professor Mike Moffatt appeared on CBC's The Exchange to discuss the commercial and policy implications of opening up the market for medical marijuana and the implications of legalizing pot for recreational use.
Moffatt stressed the importance of the government taking its time developing regulations and making sure everything goes right.
"You need to think about those things up front," said Moffatt. "You need to think about what those regulations should look like because if you just let it go, and the market does whatever it does, it's hard to push that back into the bottle."
