Media Advisory: Pirouz isn’t playing games when it comes to console wars

As the imminent launch date of Sony and Microsoft’s latest console offering nears, the collective buzz has centred around speculation relating to preorder figures, unit and blockbuster title availability, consumer preference related to the two options and the impeding war for console dominance this holiday season. Not everyone is playing that game, however.

Raymond Pirouz, Marketing Lecturer at Ivey Business School is available to comment on the ever expanding and category busting gamer market wherein the console has moved from a mass market to niche competitor, squeezed up against PC gaming by a plethora of more affordable, visually engaging and highly accessible digital media platform alternatives. Pirouz cautions against mistaking a niche market for a mass market from an investment as well as consumer perspective.

“To call these trends a game changer is an understatement,” he said.
