LONDON, ON, January 22, 2014 – The Indian Institute of Management is among 12 entrepreneurial teams from top graduate schools competing for $20,000 and a chance to attend the Global Venture Investment Competition in Texas at the 16th annual IBK Capital Ivey Business Plan Competition.
The competition runs January 24-25 at both the Ivey Business School and the Ivey Spencer Leadership Centre. It provides young entrepreneurs the opportunity to showcase their talents to potential investors and hone their business plans.
A number of teams from North America and India applied for this year’s event. Two teams, Sprynker and Stinger Surgical, will represent Ivey Business School and Western University. Other North American universities represented at the competition include the University of Louisville, University of Arkansas, University of Manitoba and York University. After two rounds of presentations to 22 judges with experience in entrepreneurial and venture capital projects, the winning team will receive $20,000 and a spot in the Global Venture Labs Investment Competition at the University of Texas at Austin in May 2014.
The event will also feature four guest speakers on January 24: Albert Behr, President and CEO of Behr and Associates; Daniel Kaute, President and CEO of Environmental Waste International; Stephen Gunn, co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Sleep Country Canada; and David Simpson, Lecturer and Executive Director of the Pierre L. Morrissette Institute for Entrepreneurship. Gunn, MBA ’81, and Simpson, MBA ’88, are both Ivey graduates.
