LONDON, ON, Sept. 2, 2014 –Ivey students are now able to fast track their way to the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation by taking courses that are accredited under the CPA profession’s new education standards.

Ivey is accredited under national standards from CPA Ontario for a three-year period beginning in 2014.

The accreditation means students in Ivey’s accounting stream have a more direct route to achieving the CPA designation. Starting in Spring 2015, Ivey will offer a 13-week Graduate Diploma in Accounting program that includes five courses that are accredited by CPA Ontario. Students are then eligible for advanced standing in the CPA Professional Education Program, allowing students to earn the designation faster. Ivey’s accounting courses incorporate the School’s trademark Case-Method Learning approach.

“The accreditation is an important accomplishment for the School,” said Ivey Dean Bob Kennedy. “We are proud to offer our students a head start in pursuing the CPA designation because of the benefits the designation brings. In return, the accounting profession will benefit from the real-world approach our graduates will give complex financial issues as a result of our case-based approach to learning.”

The Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation has become Canada’s marquee accounting designation. It was introduced in Canada in 2012, as part of an on-going process to unify Canada’s three accounting professions: the Chartered Accountants (CAs), Certified Management Accountants (CMAs), and the Certified General Accountants (CGAs).

“We’re pleased to continue to build on Ivey’s very strong relationship with CPA Canada and look forward to continuing to contribute to the strength of the accounting industry by educating the best and brightest,” said Mary Gillett, Faculty Director of Ivey’s HBA Program.

Gillett said Ivey’s graduates have traditionally had an outstanding success rate on the Uniform Final Exam, which is the last exam students take in pursuit of the CA designation. The new CPA program will culminate with the Common Final Examination or “CFE”.
