As rising food prices continue to contribute to hunger crises around the world, there’s an urgent need for initiatives that offer lasting change.

For this year’s BCG Case Competition, held October 25-27, HBA1 students were challenged to explore what resources are in place to address food insecurity in London, Ontario and how they can be better used to make an impact. The students also developed a plan to help a non-profit grocery chain that delivers food to communities in need to succeed in its mission and scale up.

It was a timely exercise that fell on the heels of World Food Day – a global reminder of the importance of eradicating world hunger – and one that allowed the students to apply their learnings to a real-world situation.

The annual competition is part of the Learning Through Action course. It challenged students to analyze two cases in three days and present their recommendations to a variety of judges including Ivey faculty, alumni, and BCG representatives. In addition, the students had to create a team charter outlining how they would work together as a high-performing cross-sectional team.
