For Melinda Hay, an HBA ’26 candidate, receiving the HBA ’91 Student Leader Award was more than a financial aid opportunity – it was an affirmation of her hard work and a catalyst for her future aspirations.
“My scholarship means so much to me because it has helped me alleviate some of the financial concerns and stress that I’ve experienced, allowing me to focus my time on my extracurriculars, academics, and my personal development,” said Hay.
The HBA ’91 Student Leader Award is awarded annually to a student entering the HBA program based on academic achievement, financial need, and involvement in extracurricular activities. For Hay, it opened the door to an enriched learning experience at Ivey and supported her in taking full advantage of the program.
“It’s enabled me to partake, not only in the HBA program, but also to fully immerse myself in a program that fosters an environment for growth and development through learning,” she said.
Beyond financial support, the scholarship served as an important acknowledgment of the effort Hay has invested in her journey.
“It has also been really nice because it has given me recognition for achievements, and the hard work that I’ve put in, motivating me to continue to strive for excellence,” she said.
Looking ahead, Hay is driven by a passion for the asset management industry – a dynamic field that challenges her and aligns with her long-term goal of making meaningful impact. She plans to remain actively engaged with the Ivey Alumni Network, paying forward the support she received.
“I want to give back to the Ivey community by helping students like myself who are currently in my shoes,” she said.
