The Ivey International Centre for Health Innovation will be hosting Dr. Brent Norton (President & CEO, Director, MedCurrent Inc.; Venture Partner, Lumira Capital), Dr. Bryce Pickard (Managing Director and COO at CANet - Cardiac Arrhythmia Network of Canada) and Mr. Chris Carson (Vice President, Partner Relations and Transformation, LifeLabs) to engage in a panel discussion with Western and Ivey students.

Panelists

Dr. Brent Norton, MBA'89 (President & CEO, Director, MedCurrent Inc.; Venture Partner, Lumira Capital)

Dr. Norton is a leader in the Life Science industry with operational and Director experience across several successful enterprises which achieved significant multiples for investors. Dr. Norton founded PreMD, completing IPO’s and listings on both TSX and AMEX. Operationally, he has built R&D and commercial operations, led transactions with AstraZeneca, Atherogenics, Eli Lilly, L’Oreal, Parke Davis/Pfizer, etc., and taken products through the FDA to global out-licensing with Johnson & Johnson. He is a founding Director of Novadaq Technologies (TSX:NDQ, NASDAQ:NVDQ), one of Canada’s most valuable medical companies. Dr. Norton has been an active member of several BOD’s, public and private, in both Canada and the US. He is a Venture Partner at Lumira Capital, a member of the Research Committee for CAMH, an Advisory BOD member for the Ivey International Centre for Health Innovation, and a Past-President and Director of the Osler Bluff Ski Club and Director of Alpine Ontario.

Dr. Bryce Pickard (Managing Director and COO at CANet - Cardiac Arrhythmia Network of Canada)

Dr. Pickard is the Managing Director and COO at the Cardiac Arrhythmia Network of Canada (CANet). CANet brings together health care professionals, academia, government, industry, not-for-profit, and patients to support new ideas and ground-breaking research for those experiencing heart rhythm disturbances. Prior to this role, Dr. Pickard was the Executive Director of Research at Western University. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing Research Development & Services and Research Ethics for the University. Previously, Dr. Pickard was a Business Development Manager at WORLDiscoveries, where he successfully facilitated the transfer of Western technologies to commercial partners within the medical device/healthcare sector. Bryce holds a PhD in human physiology and a Masters in developmental cell and molecular biology from Western.

Mr. Chris Carson, MBA'11 (Vice President, Partner Relations and Transformation, LifeLabs)

As Vice President, Partner Relations, Chris is responsible for renewing and building relationships with governments across the country while enhancing LifeLabs’ external presence. Working closely with the CEO and other members of the executive team, Chris deepens relationships with LifeLabs’ partners across Canada, supporting LifeLabs’ mission of building a healthier Canada.

Before joining LifeLabs, Chris spent  many years serving in the Ontario government in a variety of roles, including  Chief of Staff to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care. Most recently, Chris served as Associate Vice President at Trillium Health Partners where he oversaw a public affairs portfolio while helping lead health system transformation projects to drive the shift of care from hospitals to the community.

Chris earned an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario with a Health Sector specialization, and completed his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree at Queen’s University in Political Studies.
