When it comes to support for eating disorders, roadblocks abound. Waitlists and fees for service can deter people from getting help.

Victoria Wiebe’s blog discusses why the Toronto-based, non-profit support centre, Sheena’s Place, is a model to follow. It offers free services to about 1,000 clients per year, with flexible timing and no physician’s referral required.

“Organizations like Sheena’s Place are an excellent example of effective publicly funded treatment, and these organizations remain a necessary resource for individuals suffering from eating disorders,” says Wiebe.
