In the fall of 2011, a trio of music-savvy entrepreneurs saw a gap in quality concert listings in Toronto and throughout Canada. Hoping to fill that gap, Toronto promoter Mark Pesci, musician Chris Slorach and web designer Greg Sullivan launched the concert listings site, Just Shows.

With each of the men also working full-time jobs, the challenge lies in increasing cash flow in order to reduce the workload of maintaining the site.

The Globe and Mail turned to experts, including Assistant Professor Larry Plummer, to weigh in on how Just Shows can make enough money to better sustain itself.

“While Taylor Swift doesn’t need help connecting with fans, younger and newer acts do,” said Plummer. “One suggestion is to generate targeted lists of fans by genre and then allow bands to use these lists for a reasonable fee.”
