In an op-ed for Canadian Business, Assistant Professor Mike Moffatt made the case for selective elimination of low-revenue import tariffs. Eliminating most tariffs on imported goods would boost Canadian productivity, says Moffatt.

Referencing a paper he released for the Mowat Centre, Moffatt delves further into his reasoning for import tariff elimination.

“[The paper] highlights the absurd, occasionally Kafkaesque, world of Canadian import tariffs and finds that while most tariffs raise next to no revenue for the government, they impose significant costs on Canadian businesses and consumers,” he said.
