As product knockoffs get better, copycat competition poses a serious threat to manufacturers.
Engineering.com featured the research of Assistant Professor Hubert Pun and Gregory DeYong, an assistant professor at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, on copycat manufacturing.
In their recent paper, “Competing with Copycats When Customers Are Strategic,” Pun and DeYong looked at the copycat manufacturing epidemic and found that financial stakes and profit margin are the two biggest predictors of copycat competition. They also discuss the effects of look-alike products.
