Banks are increasingly collaborating with FinTech companies in many areas of payments, but there are questions around how far these initiatives will go. Will they become long-term relationships that spawn commercially successful concepts?
Associate Professor Michael King, co-director of the Scotiabank Digital Banking Lab, discussed the risks and rewards of FinTech at SWIFT Business Forum Canada 2017 in Toronto on March 22.
His talk, “Better Together: Is FinTech a disruptor or an enabler?,” covered five topics:
- FinTech as a framework for analysis;
- FinTech as a disruptor or enabler;
- How Canadian banks are collaborating with startup companies;
- How FinTechs are pivoting or partnering with incumbents; and,
- The modernization of Canadian payments industry.
