Ivey’s first ever Social Impact Conference was not only a sellout, but also a milestone for students seeking ways to apply their business skills and their passion in pursuit of making a social impact.

On January 27th, 2018, Ivey Connects, Ivey Not-For-Profit Club, and Ivey Sustainability Club teamed up to provide students with an exciting full day of interactive learning about career opportunities with a purpose.

RBC generously sponsored this event and began the conference by sharing the various opportunities it offers to students who share a passion for social enterprise.

London Brewing Co-op hosted the Social Cooperative Workshop that challenged students to use their critical thinking skills to explore their beliefs and ideas around democracy within the workplace.

There were plenty of networking opportunities as students engaged with a panel of business professionals working within the social impact sector. Panellists inspired students by sharing their unique perspectives, professional journeys, inspirations and practical recruiting advice.

Throughout the conference, students explored a variety of fields, such as impact investing, social finance and entrepreneurship in a not-for-profit startup. The conference culminated with a pitch competition, hosted by Rumie, in which teams presented a solution to a real-life, real-time, social business problem. Generous local industry sponsorship provided impact-based prizes for student competitions throughout the day.

The conference that connected business leaders and Ivey students was an overwhelming success. A big thanks to all who participated in the conference. We look forward to continuing this event next year!
