Two distinguished Ivey alumni are among the Canadians named to this year’s Order of Canada, one of the country’s highest civilian honours, recognizing extraordinary achievement, service, and dedication to the nation.
Ian Ihnatowycz, MBA ’82, and Donald Triggs, MBA ’68, were acknowledged for their lasting contributions to business, philanthropy, and community leadership in Canada.
Established in 1967, the Order of Canada is the cornerstone of the Canadian Honours System and has recognized more than 8,000 individuals whose work has enriched the lives of others and strengthened the country.
Ian Ihnatowycz, MBA ’82
Named a Member of the Order of Canada, Ian Ihnatowycz is widely recognized for his leadership in business and deep commitment to philanthropy. Leveraging his success in investment management, Ihnatowycz and his wife, Marta Witer, established the Ihnatowycz Family Foundation, supporting education, health care, and the arts across Canada.
At Ivey, his generosity has had a transformative impact. His foundational gift helped establish the Ian O. Ihnatowycz Institute for Leadership, advancing cutting-edge research and thought leadership on character-driven leadership. He continues to support the School as an Ivey Advisory Board member, contributing his insight and experience to Ivey’s strategic direction.
Donald Triggs, MBA ’68
Named an Officer of the Order of Canada, Donald Triggs is celebrated as a pioneer of Canada’s modern wine industry. As co-founder of Jackson-Triggs and former president and CEO of Vincor International, he played a defining role in building Canadian wine into a globally recognized industry.
Beyond his entrepreneurial achievements, Triggs is known for his enduring philanthropic support of education and the arts. For Ivey, in particular, he established the Donald L. Triggs Chair in International Business, strengthening the School’s global teaching and research mission. A retired Ivey Advisory Board member, Triggs has remained a valued supporter of Ivey and its international business teaching and research programs.
Together, Ihnatowycz and Triggs exemplify the leadership, generosity, and impact that the Order of Canada was created to honour and celebrate.
