The MSc Sustainability Club, supported by the Centre for Building Sustainable Value, is a relatively new club, getting its start in early 2020. It was founded on the realization that sustainability and business challenges are increasingly converging. The club strives to answer the question, how do we create a resilient, equitable economy for generations to come?

Founding members recognized there was a gap in the MSc offerings for students who were interested in exploring careers in this space, and created the club to fill this need. Today, Ivey Business School recognizes sustainability as a critical issue.

The club encourages MSc students to explore the topic of sustainability and how it intersects with business. By bringing together a passionate group of students, the club facilitates a learning environment that is fun and inclusive.

Events for students

Most events that the club offers are focused on exposing students to a broad spectrum of sustainability-related career opportunities, including incredible guest panels on topics such as;

  • Fashion sustainability;
  • Careers in energy; and,
  • Consulting.

This past year, the club also organized Ivey’s first annual Graduate Sustainability Conference. It featured speakers on several sustainability topics, a workshop, and a networking session.

The sustainability club is an important addition to Ivey because it enlightens MSc students about the potential of a career that has sustainability at its core.

What is your most memorable moment with the Sustainability Club?

“Our sustainability conference, INTEGRATE, really stands out in my memory. Six months of planning with the whole team went into it. It took place in November and was Ivey’s first in-person conference since March 2020. It was attended by over 80 students from the MSc and MBA programs, as well as many speakers, sponsors, and faculty. Most importantly, I think we shifted attendees' perspectives on what sustainability can look like and got them excited about what’s to come in the space. A tremendous learning experience and something we can all be proud of.” - Jared Bell, Club President

What’s next?

The Sustainability Club has approximately 90 members across all MSc streams. It also has a five-member executive team. Going forward, club members are excited for their club to grow in member size and bring awareness about sustainability to the Ivey community and beyond.
