It seems fitting that MSc Digital Management students completed the Ivey Digital Innovation Studio course by presenting their banking technology ideas to CIBC at the company’s new, innovative building, CIBC Square.
After all, innovation was the focus of the course, which challenged the students through three separate digital innovation design sprints, each with a different client seeking creative ways to use emerging technologies to enhance their business.
On Thursday, July 28, the Ivey Digital Innovation Studio (IDIS) wrapped up with the CIBC Digital Innovation Challenge at CIBC Square in Toronto, one of the first events held at this new space. Student teams addressed a banking industry concern put forward by CIBC, the partner of the course’s third and final sprint. The teams presented their solutions via video to a panel of nine CIBC judges and answered their questions live.
Following the challenge, students were given a tour of the CIBC Square and their innovative facilities, then participated in an awards ceremony and networking event.
IDIS, which began in May, is a required course in the MSc Digital Management stream and provides a real-world learning experience leveraging design thinking and emphasizing the art of the possible. The 2022 IDIS kicked off with a BootCamp to prepare students for the three sprints. Each sprint was progressively more challenging, which the students met with increasingly innovative and professionally proposed solutions. The experience was a realistic preview to working on a technology-based innovation consulting engagement.
Thank you to the CIBC Enterprise Innovation group for providing the topic and evaluating the presentations for the sprint and for hosting the students at CIBC Square.
Thank you also to the other clients who participated in the 2022 IDIS: Aviva Insurance, Birchwood Automotive, CityMedia, Delhi Chamber of Commerce, Parts Canada, and Roche.
