Ivey Professor June Cotte says there is nothing quite like cases for putting students in the driver’s seat to make and defend a decision based on the facts in front of them at the time.

That’s why talented case authors, like Cotte, ensure each case is carefully prepared to provide students with enough data to evaluate different courses of action and to stimulate meaningful classroom discussion. Each year, The Case Centre recognizes 50 bestselling case authors from a variety of subject areas for their impact on the case method and management education.

Cotte, along with three other current or former Ivey faculty – Elizabeth Grasby, Ian Dunn, and Jim Hatch – made The Case Centre’s latest list of bestselling case authors for the 2021/22 academic year. Here’s a look at Ivey’s winners and their best-selling cases.

June CotteJune Cotte, Professor, Marketing
Category: Marketing

Top three best-selling cases during the last year: Burberry's New Challenges (with Marta Jarosinski, HBA ’09); Kering: Luxury in the Digital World? (with Marta Jarosinski, HBA ’09); and, Struggling to Make the Best Buy (A) (with Seung Hwan Lee, PhD '11).

Decision-focused cases help students to articulate their positions clearly, and offer opportunities for debate between students. Learning to respectfully argue a position, but also to recognize why others have come to different conclusions, and why your decision should perhaps change, is invaluable.”
– June Cotte

Ian DunnIan Dunn, HBA ’07, MBA ’15, Lecturer and Co-Director, Business Foundations Program
Category: Finance, Accounting and Control

Top three best-selling cases during the last year: Healthy Life Group (with Elizabeth Grasby); Bluewater Football Association (with Elizabeth Grasby); and, Speak-On: Projecting Cash Budgets for a New Venture (with Jordan Sills, HBA ’17).

It’s an honour to be on this list. It’s humbling to know that students around the world are learning from these unique, challenging, and relevant case studies. I take great pride in not only the cases I have developed, but the opportunity to teach them to my students.”
– Ian Dunn

I cannot imagine teaching a class without cases and the pedagogy that goes along with case teaching. It would be far less interesting and engaging for both instructor and students!”
