Kate: Hi, I'm Kate and here are 7 top tips for recruiting in Canada.
#1: Many firms plan to hire earlier than previous years. Prepare yourself by checking out past job timelines on 12Twenty and using Career Management essential resources to prepare your applications.
#2: The top skills employers are seeking are communications, collaboration, and problem solving. Technical skills are great, but they're not enough on their own. Use the classroom and recruiting events to work on your communication, collaboration, and problem solving.
#3: Business continues to be the most popular field to hire from, however, your pre-Ivey experience, dual degree, or sequential degree from outside business is an extra advantage.
#4: Most firms are maintaining or increasing the number of people they're hiring. Firms may not hire new employees every year for various reasons, mostly based on need. Even if a few organizations are stagnant, the market overall is not.
#5: Companies prefer to hire new grads who previously completed internships or co-ops with them, so let your boss know if you'd like to continue or come back to your career with them.
#6: Use AI to refine your work without letting it take over. Employers notice quickly if you talk one way in a cover letter, but a completely different way in an interview. On that note, it is your responsibility to make sure that any changes AI makes to your documents don't end up misrepresenting you or your experience.
#7: Authenticity is critical. You will not stand out by copying others, so consider what skills and experiences make you different. Craft your unique story by reviewing your previous assignments or your career agent for your strengths, worldview, and workview, impact map, odyssey plans, and more.
