AI is changing how organizations compete, allocate capital, manage risk, serve customers,  engage stakeholders, and create value. Boards do not need to become technical experts, however, weak oversight can lead to capital misallocation, operational disruption, privacy and cybersecurity exposure, regulatory scrutiny, reputational harm, and erosion of stakeholder trust.

When management brings forward an AI strategy, a major technology investment, a pilot, a cyber incident, a data-risk issue or an autonomous system proposal, directors must provide informed challenge and, ultimately, effective oversight, without crossing into management’s role.

The Ivey Governance Intensive: AI, Technology & the Board is a highly interactive, two-day boardroom experience for serving directors, committee chairs, and senior board-facing leaders who need to exercise that judgment with confidence.  Through Ivey case discussions, peer exchange, practical governance tools, and an immersive technology crisis simulation, you will strengthen your ability to govern AI and technology as strategic, fiduciary, and enterprise-risk issues.

You will leave with a Board Technology Governance Playbook that includes:

  • a board question framework for AI strategy, value creation, governance, risk, and assurance
  • a guide to the decisions, accountabilities, and escalation thresholds between the board, committees, and management
  • a sample board dashboard or reporting checklist for AI, technology, data, cyber, and third-party risk
  • a diagnostic for assessing whether committee mandates, board capabilities, and governance routines remain fit for purpose.

Who Should Attend

This program is designed for serving directors, committee chairs, and senior leaders accountable for board-level strategy, risk, governance, technology, digital transformation, cybersecurity, and enterprise resilience.

You will benefit from this program if you are:

  • A serving director or board chair in a public, private, Crown, co-operative, family-owned, or not-for-profit organization
  • A member or chair of an audit, risk, governance, technology, digital, or transformation committee
  • A CEO or senior executive with substantial board-facing responsibilities
  • A corporate secretary, general counsel, CIO, CTO, CISO, CDO, chief risk officer, or other executive who regularly supports board decision-making

The program is best suited to participants with board or substantial board-facing experience and is curated by application to create a senior, peer-level learning environment.

About Ivey Governance Intensives

Ivey Governance Intensives are focused, interactive learning experiences designed for practicing board members and senior executives who work closely with boards.

Built around contemporary issues shaping the board agenda, each Intensive helps experienced leaders strengthen the judgment needed to navigate complex governance decisions. Through cases, peer discussion, simulation, and practical application, participants learn to ask better questions, challenge assumptions, and translate insight into stronger governance practice.

How You Learn

This program is designed as an active boardroom experience rather than a technology briefing. You will work with real management and governance dilemmas through Ivey's case method, peer discussion, practical exercises, and experiential learning. Throughout the two days, faculty will connect developments in AI and technology directly to the judgments directors are required to make.

How to Apply

Admission to the program is based on a brief application process designed to support a high-calibre cohort experience and a strong director-level peer learning environment.

As part of your application, you will be asked to upload:

  • your CV
  • a letter of intent outlining:
    • your board or substantial board-facing experience
    • why you are applying and how the program aligns with your goals
    • a recent technology, digital, or AI governance challenge you have encountered at the board level or in a board-facing context

The program is best suited to participants with board or substantial board-facing experience. To support the quality of peer discussion, the cohort will be curated with the objective of maintaining a strong director-level learning environment.
