Mark Schaan is the Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet at the Privy Council Office responsible for Artificial Intelligence. He was recently appointed by Prime Minister Mark Carney to support the Honourable Evan Solomon, Canada’s first Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation. Mark has held several senior roles at the Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and at the Privy Council Office, leading high-profile initiatives to strengthen Canada’s innovation capacity and economic performance.
Over the course of his career, he has received numerous awards for leadership and was selected for the prestigious Recruitment of Policy Leaders program, which attracts exceptional Canadian graduates to the federal public service. A Rhodes Scholar, Mark also brings an outstanding academic background to his public service work.
