Alanna Hnatiw is serving her third term as Mayor of Sturgeon County, first elected in 2017. She lives on a small farm, reflecting generations of agricultural roots and a deep commitment to our rural community. With a professional background as a small business owner in the oil and gas service industry, Mayor Hnatiw has championed environmental stewardship, safety, and innovation throughout her career.
Mayor Hnatiw is particularly recognized for her vision and leadership in advancing aviation and aerospace development in the region. Through her championing of the Villeneuve Landing Network, a groundbreaking regional partnership, she has been instrumental in revitalizing Villeneuve Airport as an economic hub for aviation, aerospace, logistics, advanced manufacturing, and defense industries. Under her guidance, Villeneuve Airport has seen transformative infrastructure upgrades and collaborative agreements, positioning it as a key driver of investment and innovation in the Edmonton region.
As Mayor, she is dedicated to building a prosperous, self-sustaining future for Sturgeon County—removing barriers, supporting small businesses, and fostering opportunities for residents of all ages. Her priorities include diversifying agriculture and industry, while making progress at the speed of relevance.
Her regional leadership is recognized province-wide: she is the founding Chair of the Edmonton Region Hydrogen Hub, a past Chair of Alberta’s Industrial Heartland, and a former Vice-Chair of the Edmonton Metropolitan Regional Board. She also served four years on the governing body of the Canadian Hydrogen Convention and was named Hydrogen Leader of the Year in 2023.
Outside of her mayoral duties, Alanna enjoys horseback riding, golfing, skiing, and yoga. She is proud to represent over 21,000 residents and bring their voices to the tables where she has the privilege to serve.
