Undergraduate students who self-identify as women and are interested in learning more about investments and asset management and will have completed their second year of undergraduate studies by May 2024 from any Canadian university. Students must also be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
Yes. We are looking for both AEO and non-AEO students with broad representation from faculties across Western. This year we are also accepting a select number of students from all other Canadian universities.
The WAM program is tuition-free and subsidized by our corporate sponsors who support our mission. We also provide course materials, selected meals, accommodations during the month of May, networking event food and beverages, and program-related travel costs. You just need to provide your own accommodation during the internship.
You will need to include your university transcripts, resumé (including all employment and extracurricular activities), two letters of recommendation (one academic and one personal), two essays, and a 60-second (maximum) recorded video that introduces you and describes why you wish to explore a career in asset management and why you should be part of the WAM program. Important note: in your video you should be professional and speak directly to us and you shouldn't be reading from your notes.
Students who successfully move onto the second round of the application process will participate in a short virtual interview with the WAM selection committee on February 6 & 7, 2024.
An academic letter should come from a current or former university instructor. A personal letter should come from anyone who isn’t related to you who can speak to your character, such as a former employer, mentor, or coach. The letter submission deadline is also January 4, 2024, but we allow a short grace period if communicated ahead of time.
Applicants moving on to the second round will be contacted on Monday February 5 2024.
Successful applicants will be notified by email by the middle of February 2024.
The two-day per-program weekend will take place on March 23-24, 2024.
The pre-program weekend will be in person with a virtual option for non Western University students. All students are invited to attend in person but travel and accommodation costs are the responsibility of the individual.
The program will take place at the Ivey Business School May 1-31, 2023, with residence move in and Welcome session and dinner taking place on Tuesday April 30 2024.
The internships are in a variety of areas in asset management including banks, pension boards, hedge funds etc.
Paid internships will occur between June 3 and August 23, 2024*, in select cities throughout Canada, with the majority in Toronto. Internships are currently available in Victoria, BC, Edmonton, AB Toronto, ON and Montreal, QC with new locations being added each year.
*internships will be 10 - 12 weeks in length and determined by the individual sponsor
Prior to the start of the program, the WAM program team will assign the internships based on best fit for both participants and corporate sponsors. Both students and sponsors are required to fill out a survey to help determine best fit.
You are responsible for accommodations during the internships. Resources will be made available to help find suitable accommodations.
Students in previous cohorts have come from many different programs of study including but not limited to, business, finance, commerce, international relations, computer science, chemical engineering, health science, medical science, philosophy, psychology, media information technology and geography.
