On October 1, 2015, the HBA Energy and Resources Club and the Ivey Energy Policy and Management Centre hosted a panel event and Q&A on the topic of "Finding a Way Forward for Pipeline Development in Canada."

Speaker Bios:

Francois Poirier is President, Energy East Pipeline, TransCanada Corporation.
The Energy East Pipeline will extend approximately 4,600 km from receipt points in Alberta and Saskatchewan to provide Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin and Bakken crude oil access to refineries in Eastern Canada and to export markets. Prior to his current appointment, Francois spent 25 years in investment banking, consulting, and as a corporate director. Most recently, he was President and Head, Investment Banking and Capital Markets, for Wells Fargo Securities Canada, Ltd., where he had overall responsibility for the firm’s investment banking practice in Canada. Previously, he was Group Head, Power and Pipelines Investment Banking, at J.P. Morgan Securities, in New York. In that capacity, he was a financial advisor for clients on several acquisitions and divestitures of energy infrastructure assets including pipelines, power plants, gas and electric utilities. Francois was an Independent Director of Capital Power Income LP from 2007 until 2011, and is Past Chair of the Toronto North Food Bank. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business at York University, and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Operations Research from the University of Ottawa.

Bruce Lourie is President of Ivey Foundation, a private charitable foundation focusing on environmental policy change. With a 20-year career built on creating collaborative solutions to challenges facing non-profits, government and the private sector, Bruce has expertise on toxic substances, green energy, forest conservation, and environmental philanthropy. Lourie is also a director of the Ontario Power Authority; a director of the Ontario Trillium Foundation; and a Chair of the Board of Environmental Defence Canada. He is a founder of a number of for-profit and non-profit organizations including Summerhill Group, a prominent market transformation consultancy specializing in energy conservation and renewable energy; the Sustainability Network; the Enerquality Corporation; and the Canadian Environmental Grantmakers’ Network. He was also the founding executive director of the Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance and the founding president of the Clean Air Foundation.
