Ivey Value Fund Fellows

Students whose stocks are selected for inclusion in the Ivey Value Fund, either as immediate buys or as watchlisted stocks, are given the title of Ivey Value Fund Fellows. Inclusion signifies that their work has gone through a rigorous selection process by the fund's Advisory Board, Managing Director, and Fund Managers, as well as ranking at the top quartile in the Value Investing course. The Ivey Value Fund Fellow designation also signifies that these students have accepted responsibility for tracking and reporting on their stock picks after graduation.

Acadian Timber (ADN.TO)

Ryan Stern

Ryan is a graduate of the Ivey HBA class of 2018 as well as Ivey’s Graduate Diploma in Accounting. Prior to completing the HBA program, he interned for two summers in wealth management at BMO Nesbitt Burns. Currently, he is pursuing his CPA through Audit at PwC in Toronto. In 2018, his group was awarded the Robotti & Company Advisors LLC honor given to the group whose stock recommendation received the highest recognition by the Fund's Advisory Board and was therefore added to the Value Fund. Ryan has been involved in several extracurricular activities including, President of the Western Accounting Association, a member of a hockey intermural team and an Ivey Teaching and Research Assistant.

Joe Laferriere

Joe is a graduate of the 2018 Ivey HBA class and is pursuing his CPA designation. He is currently employed as a Staff Accountant at Ernst & Young in their Assurance Practice where his role involves the audit of large financial service organizations. He has a large passion for investments and strongly believes that his accounting background provides key insights to understanding and evaluating financial reports. Outside of investments, Joe has a large community focus, volunteering across many not-for-profit organizations such as Junior Achievers, and Habitat for Humanity. His involvement is also demonstrated on campus through mentoring and student event planning. In the future Joe hopes to continue his education and obtain an international MBA before pursuing a private equity position.

Zach Lechner-Sung

Zach is a graduate of the Ivey HBA class of 2018. Following Ivey, he will be attending law school at the University of Toronto. Previously, Zach has interned as an analyst at Institutional Mortgage Capital, as well as Sionna Investment Managers, a prominent Canadian value investing firm. Zach plans on pursuing a career in corporate law where he hopes to work in private equity or real estate.

Michael Moscarelli

Michael is a graduate of the Ivey HBA class of 2018. Prior to graduating, Michael interned at OPTrust as an Investment Analyst under the Office of the CIO. Following Ivey, he will be working at Citigroup in Toronto as a Sales Trading Analyst on the Equity Derivatives desk. He has been passionate about investing since the age of 14 when he first began trading his own account.

Andrew Semple

Andrew is a graduate of Ivey’s HBA Class of 2017. He currently works as an Equity Research Associate at Echelon Wealth Partners, and previously held summer internships with CIBC Equity Derivatives, RBC Pension Investments, and Sprott Asset Management Operations. Through his work and extra-curricular experiences, Andrew has developed his research, financial modelling and valuation skills. He is currently working towards becoming a CFA charterholder. Andrew has a long history of engagement with his community. He recently assisted his professor with a value investing seminar, and has previously volunteered with local not-for-profit organizations such as Windrush Stables Therapeutic Riding Centre, Toronto Brigantine, and Oakville Soccer Club.

Prabhjeev Gambhir

Prabhjeev graduated from the HBA program in 2017 and was a member of the Dean’s Honor List. Passionate about entrepreneurship from a very young age, Prabhjeev decided to start his own business after graduating. He is the co-founder of Homeshares, a real estate tech startup introducing home equity sharing in Canada. With a deep appreciation for value investing principles, Prabhjeev strives to build a company that creates true value for shareholders.

BonnerBrendon Bonnor

Brendon is a graduate of the Ivey HBA 2016 class. He spent his Ivey summer internship at Macquarie Capital working in infrastructure investment banking where he was heavily exposed to M&A activity. Prior to Macquarie, Brendon worked in a variety of industries, interning with companies such as BlackBerry, Labatt, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, and The Centre for Surgical Invention and Innovation. Brendon is now a strategy consultant at Monitor Deloitte, hoping to continue his interest in finance from the consulting point of view. Prior to Ivey, Brendon was on the Western Varsity Rowing team, and continued his involvement throughout Ivey as section president and member of the Western University Students Council. Brendon is passionate about following the principles of value investing throughout his own investing endeavours.

Alan Zhu

Alan is graduate of the Ivey HBA Class of 2019. He has previously worked as a summer research analyst at long-short equity hedge fund Shanghai Milestone Asset Management. Alan looks forward to pursuing a career in equity research and looks forward to applying value investing principles he has learned as a student of Professor George Athanassakos. Alan enjoys playing basketball, and yoga during his spare time.

Groupe BMTC (GBT.TO)

Ton Bui

Ton is a graduate in Ivey MBA class of 2018. He received the Patient Capital Award for the highest grade in his Value Investing class and his team’s stock is a finalist for the Robotti Award. His entrepreneurial prowess caught the eye of the New Venture Project judges where he was offered seven figures to seed fund his Vietnamese-based food delivery venture. However, the prospect of leaving Canada was too much to bear and he turned it down. Before joining Ivey, Ton spent three years working as a Chemical Engineer, before moving on to private investments with typical deal size from a few millions to less than US$50 million.

Alex Machielsen

Alex is a graduate of the 2018 Ivey MBA Program, VP Internal of the MBA Real Estate Club, and a member of the LEADER program. Prior to the start of the MBA program, Alex worked for a real estate developer in Halifax, Nova Scotia for seven years where he held a variety of roles that enabled him to gain experience at every step of the development value chain. As a proud Maritimer, Alex hopes to return to Nova Scotia where he hopes to utilize the value investing principles he learned at Ivey to identify and develop undervalued companies.

Varun Maryada

Varun is a graduate of 2018 Ivey MBA Program and the President of Technology Club at Ivey. Prior to the program, Varun worked as software developer for over 5+ years where he gained extensive knowledge in Technology. He hopes to pursue a career in technology after the MBA and use his Value Investing principles he learned at Ivey to invest in undervalued companies in other industries and expand his knowledge and horizon.

Partho Roy

Partho is an MBA 2018 graduate at Ivey MBA program and is the VP Finance of the MBA Association. Prior to joining Ivey, he worked in the Operational Risk department for Societe Generale where he helped the firm improve its risk management practices. He has been investing in equities since 2015 and was introduced to value investing techniques while attending Ivey. Outside of work, he loves travelling, cooking and is an avid fan of formula 1 racing.

Rohit Sawhney

Rohit is a MBA graduate, Class of 2018 at Ivey Business School. At Ivey, he was the Co-President, Sales & Marketing Club, Student Brand Ambassador, and the President of The Ivey Photography club. Rohit is a technology enthusiast and he is currently working at Cisco Canada as a Collaboration Sales Specialist. Prior to his MBA, Rohit has global experience in Business and Channel development with brands like Nikon and Sony. Rohit has been a regularly investing in stock, mutual funds, and real estate since 2014. Value investing Going forward, he is eager to apply the Value Investing principles to identify undervalued, high moat companies to maximize returns.

Abhay Chawla

Abhay is an Ivey MBA 2019 graduate. At Ivey, he was heading social impact initiatives as a Social Impact Senator and he was also the Vice President of the Investment Club. Prior to Ivey, Abhay was working at Bain & Company in India, leading Private Equity and Consumer Product consulting cases. Next, he would be joining back the firm as a Consultant in the Toronto Office. Abhay has been regularly following the Indian Stock market and actively investing in it since 2013, along the lines of Value Investing principles. Outside of his work, Abhay loves to travel and spend time with his friends and family.

Elisabeth Hass

Elisabeth is a graduate of Ivey's HBA ('12) and MBA ('19) programs. Prior to returning to Ivey, Elisabeth worked in Corporate Strategy at Ceridian, helping the business scale to successfully hit its ambitious growth targets. Elisabeth is eager to continue to learn about Value Investing principles as a Fund Fellow.

Brooke Mikalachki

Brooke is a graduate of the 2019 Ivey MBA Program. Prior to the Ivey MBA, she worked for News Marketing Canada, a subsidiary of News Corp. as a sales professional, and has experience working with CPGs on various marketing campaigns. While at Ivey, Brooke participated in the LEADER program, the Social Impact Club, and the MBA Rugby World Cup. Brooke thoroughly enjoyed the value investing course and hopes to continue to apply her knowledge post MBA.

Richard Ruggiero

Richard is a graduate of the 2019 Ivey MBA Program. Prior to the start of the Ivey MBA, he held various category management roles, working for Target Canada and Sears Canada and most recently as a consultant at NY Brand Studio. Richard was introduced to Value Investing principles while at Ivey and hopes to continue to invest in undervalued companies and expand his knowledge in this field.

Taylor Whitehouse

Taylor is a graduate of the MBA class of 2019.  Prior to Ivey Taylor graduated from the Wilfrid Laurier University's BBA program in 2013, and following that worked at PepsiCo Beverages Canada in a variety of finance roles of progressive responsibility.  During his time at Ivey, Taylor was an Executive Director for The LEADER Project, an organization that teaches two week boot camps focused on entrepreneurship in developing and emerging economies.  Taylor is now a consultant with the Boston Consulting Group based out of Toronto.

Mira Krunic

Mira is a 2017 graduate of the Master of Financial Economics (MFE) program at Western University. She spent her summer internship in the Funds Management and Banking Department at the Bank of Canada. Prior to joining the MFE graduate program, she was pursuing an Actuary and Financial Mathematics degree at McMaster University on a volleyball scholarship and playing on the Varsity Women’s Volleyball Team. She is now working at TD Bank as a Treasury Associate in the Treasury and Balance Sheet Management department. Mira is working toward the CFA designation.

Arete Zafiriou

Arete is a graduate of the Master of Financial Economics program at the University of Western Ontario, class of 2017. She spent her summer internship on the trading floor at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, where she learnt about different asset classes and trading strategies. She also holds a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo. Arete is now an Associate Portfolio Advisor at RBC Dominion Securities, focusing particularly on Exchange Traded Funds. She is a CFA Level II Candidate.

Ingles Markets (IMKTA.TO)

David Gingera

David is a graduate of the Ivey MBA Class of 2019. Prior to coming to Ivey, David worked in mid-market mergers and acquisitions where he advised on sell-side transactions ranging from $2-20 million. David also has experience in entrepreneurship having spent three years as the founder of a sustainable agriculture venture. Outside of work, David enjoys road cycling, reading, and playing guitar.

Manbir Pabla

Manbir is a graduate of the Ivey MBA Class of 2019. Prior to coming to Ivey, Manbir worked in life insurance and segregated funds product development with AXA Insurance, where he contributed in a team on the market-entry strategy for the middle east market. Manbir also has 3 years of experience in downstream Oil&Gas operations and sales, in which he gave shape to his business development and territory distribution network management competencies. Outside of work, Manbir enjoys reading, researching on stocks, and watching Tennis tournaments.

Kewaunee Scientific Corp (KEQU)

Aryan Eftekhari

Aryan is a graduate of the 2019 Ivey HBA class with a certificate in Entrepreneurship. He is currently a fellow in Venture for Canada entrepreneurship program. He is passionate about start-ups that are delivering tangible value to their customers. He believes that entrepreneurship aligns with value investing principles and this background allows him to understand key activities of firms to uncover potential value. Outside of investments, Aryan has been involved in many extracurricular activities including as a regional competitor in The Hult Prize, a member of a basketball intramural team, and volunteering for a variety of community organizations.

Jared Emon

Jared is a graduate of the Ivey HBA class of 2019. Prior to transferring to Ivey, he majored in International Economics and Finance as well as studied abroad at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Prior to completing the HBA program, he interned for two summers at RBC Wealth Management. Following Ivey, Jared will be joining HSBC’s Global Banking and Markets Division in Toronto and is currently working towards becoming a CFA charterholder.

Riley Phillipson

Riley is graduate of the Ivey HBA class of 2019, where he was on the executive committee for the Ivey Sales and Trading Club. He currently works at DRW, a proprietary trading firm, where he is an analyst on their event-driven equities team. Prior to DRW, Riley spent a summer at Scotiabank where he worked on optimizing their credit total return swap business. Riley continues to develop his value investing acumen through personal research, and is working toward becoming a CFA charterholder. He is a former competitive hockey player and enjoys spending time outdoors.

Alex Solomos

Alex is a graduate of the Ivey HBA class of 2019. Following Ivey, he will be returning to Western University for a year to complete his BSc in Biology dual degree. Alex has previous internship experience at Scotiabank, most recently as an Investment Banking Summer Analyst, and hopes to pursue a career in Finance.

Derek Kang

Derek is a graduate of the Ivey HBA class of 2018. During his HBA program, Derek interned for a summer in Seoul, South Korea, as an analyst for AskStory, a start-up tech venture. As an analyst for an international firm, Derek has developed his research skills for foreign markets and believes that his skills will provide key insights to finding and identifying value within global equities. Outside of his studies, Derek was actively involved on campus as the VP Finance for Western's Save the Children Club. In the future, Derek hopes to pursue his new found interest in value investing, and apply it to a career within real estate and private equity.

Greg Lee

Greg is currently enrolled in his final year as a dual degree candidate in the HBA/BA (Honors) in economics program at Western University. Greg has completed a two-year military service in South Korea in 2017, during which he completed and passed all USCPA exams. Upon returning to complete the remaining two years in the program, Greg passed CFA Level 1 in December 2017 and is pursuing CFA Level 2 in June 2019. As resourceful, innovative, and ambitious business student, Greg possesses experience working for private and public organizations complemented by strong business and financial acumen and an understanding of finance, accounting, economics, marketing, and investing, including financial markets and products. Greg is passionate about pursuing a career in value investing.

Andy Seo

Andy is a graduate of the HBA program at the Ivey School of business. Andy has worked as a strategy analyst at Scotiabank, and has experience in acquisition and disposition of Scotiabank's retail real estate assets in Latin America. Andy is also a member of Cunningham Investment Group, where he had helped the portfolio manager organize stock presentations to investors of the fund since 2014. As a curious and critical thinking business graduate, Andy is looking for new ways to expand the application of value investing principles outside the traditional investment vehicles. Andy is passionate about pursuing a career in value investing within the real estate industry.

Chris Davidge

Chris is a graduate of the 2018 Ivey HBA class as well as Ivey’s Graduate Diploma in Accounting. He is currently pursuing his CPA through Audit at Deloitte in Toronto and is also completing the CFA designation. Prior to Ivey, Chris was a competitive snowboarder and continued his passion of sport by playing on numerous sports team during his university career. Chris strongly believes in the principles of value investing and continues to develop his skills through practice and collaboration.

Nour El Damatty

Nour holds an HBA from the Ivey Business School where she graduated on the Dean's Honor List in 2017. She also holds a Graduate Diploma in Accounting from the Ivey Business School. She completed the Value Investing Course in 2017 when her team was awarded the Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd award for the section's strongest valuation report. During her time at Ivey, she was also involved as a Career Mentor and a Teaching Assistant. Nour is currently in the process of completing her CPA designation within the audit public practice at Deloitte.

NFI Group Inc. (NFI.TO)

Nikita Bisht

Nikita is a graduate of the Ivey HBA class of 2019. She was also the recipient of the F. W. P. Jones Prize, awarded to students with outstanding ability in finance by the faculty of Finance at Ivey. She is currently pursuing a career in investment management and has successfully completed CFA Level I in June 2019. Nikita’s initial spark for investing started with reading investing and personal finance books. With the completion of the Value investing course in 2019, she was awarded the Stacey Muirhead Award and currently, she continues to use her new found interest and potential to practice value investing and further her interests.

Lovedeep Somal

Lovedeep is a 2019 Dual Degree graduate from the Ivey HBA program and the Engineering Faculty at Western University. He worked a summer analyst on the Development team at Oxford Properties (OMERS) prior to completing his HBA at Ivey, where he developed his skills in valuations and financial modelling. Lovedeep’s interest for value investing started with reading "Margin of Safety” by Seth Klarman. Lovedeep avidly indulges in investing books and podcasts. He is passionate about pursuing a career in value investing and real estate development and hopes to continue to invest in undervalued companies and expand his knowledge in this field. Outside of work, Lovedeep enjoys running, biking and researching real estate development opportunities.

Rocky Mountain Dealerships (RME.TO)

Wang RobertRobert Wang

Robert worked a summer analyst on the M&A team at Great Wall Securities prior to completing his HBA at Ivey, where he developed expertise in data aggregation, valuations, and financial modeling. He worked on a deal for a major retail company from initial due diligence to final CIM preparation. His responsibilities included analyzing financial statements, conducting market research, and projecting future cash flows. Robert speaks fluent Mandarin and is currently pursuing CFA level 1.

Vecima Networks Inc. (VMC.TO)

Abed Pathan

Abed is a graduate of the 2017 Ivey MBA Program. Prior to the start of the Ivey MBA, he was a Manager in the Assurance and Advisory practice of Ernst & Young. He has experience working with clients across multiple industries including Real Estate, Manufacturing, Media, Telecom, CPG, Retail & Aerospace. Abed also works actively in his community and is a member of various non-profit organizations in Toronto. Abed has a BBA from the University of Toronto, is a holder of the CA and CPA designations and the AFM designation from The Marquee Group.

Sarangen Sathasivam

Sarangen is a graduate of the 2017 Ivey MBA Program. Prior to the start of the Ivey MBA, he held various roles at ExxonMobil including the position of a financial analyst supporting the development of major oil and gas projects off the east coast of Canada and a royalty and revenue analyst supporting revenue and royalty reporting of offshore gas production to the government. In his last role as the planning analyst, he worked closely with the management team and executives at ExxonMobil Canada to develop the financial budget for the assets located in the east coast of Canada. In addition, he was responsible for stewardship reporting and analysis to assess key drivers of business performance. He achieved his CPA, CMA designation in 2015.
