Student Attendee Key Takeaways
“Curtis Jensen’s presentation was a strong reminder that amidst turbulent times in the market, the diligent investor can find a lot of value. I enjoyed hearing his perspectives on sourcing information, developing an investment thesis through rigorous analysis, and being patient as value is realized over time. It was a pleasure to have Curtis come and share his industry insights as a longstanding value investor and his sentiment towards continuous learning both professionally and personally.” ~ David Booth, 2022 MBA
"The most significant takeaway I had from Curtis Jensen's talk was the importance of continuously learning as a value investor. The importance of continuous growth is well known by people in all fields; however, Curtis demonstrates the importance of 1) learning from the right sources and 2) having the temperament to not overreact to past results. An example for the first lesson would be him taking a closer look at companies that other smart people invest in such as Kraft Heinz, and not learning from the market during periods of irrational exuberance and "hype" for shiny new companies. An example for the second would be the company that didn't fit Curtis' risk profile due to pending litigations. A colleague had gone ahead and invested in the company and made 4x returns; however, Curtis was able to look past emotions, and stuck to his core fundamentals instead of having regret and changing his entire investing philosophy due to this one-off event. These two aspects have been a major reason for Curtis' marvellous investing career, and they are tools that all value investors should try and develop in their own lives." ~ Urfa Khalid, 2022 HBA
My takeaway from today’s presentation is that, in the world of investing, uncertainty is the only certainty; so, to be a great value investor, you must adopt the right mindset which includes staying disciplined in your investment approach, maintaining temperament in moments of doubt, and having a long-term perspective to value-creation. Mr. Jensen’s presentation was an invaluable opportunity to learn from a renowned value investor with a track record of excellence.” ~ Jesse Amaral, 2022 HBA
