Sylvia Chrominska is a graduate of Western University with an Honours Degree in Business Administration.

Sylvia joined Scotiabank in 1979 and held progressively more senior positions until retiring in May 2013 from the position of Group Head, Global Human Resources and Communications.

She serves on the Board of Directors of Emera, Inc., Wajax Corporation, and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. Sylvia’s community activities have included: Chair of the Capital Campaign for Women’s College Hospital; the Dean's Advisory Board, Ivey Business School, and on the National Board of Directors of Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada; a member of the International Women’s Forum, Women’s Executive Network, and the Global Human Resources Roundtable. Sylvia has served on the boards of Western University, Dofasco, Inc., Goodwill Industries of Toronto, and The Stratford Festival (2004 – 2010) and the Junior Achievement of Central Ontario Boards of Governors.

In 2005, she received the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award for Corporate Leadership for her work in helping to advance the careers of women and was named to the Top 100 List of Canada's Most Powerful Women by the Women's Executive Network, being named to its Hall of Fame in 2007. She was among the first recipients of The International Alliance for Women World of Difference 100 Award in 2008, recognizing her contributions to the economic empowerment of women. In 2010, Sylvia was the inaugural recipient of the Catalyst Canada Honours in the category of Human Resources/Diversity Leader.  She was also the recipient of the Ivey Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contributions to the Ivey Business School. In 2012, Sylvia was honoured by Women Against MS for her support, as well as her broader philanthropic contributions. In June 2014, she received an honorary doctorate from Western University. Sylvia rejoined The Stratford Festival Board in March 2014; she was appointed Vice-Chair in 2016 and 2017 and served as Chair from March 2018 to March 2020; she serves on the Governance Committee and the TPT Campaign Steering and Building committees. She has also served as a Director on the Festival’s Endowment Foundation Board, chaired the Governance Committee, and served on the Finance and Audit Committee.
