Back to school!

Back to school!

For some, O-Week 2013 is well underway, for others, the before-school anticipation is looming overhead. Over the weekend I moved and assembled all my flat-packed furniture in my new place off-campus. I’m home for the week to relish in the last days summer sailing, painting, and reading, but I’ll be joining you all on campus soon enough!

For first years: Welcome to Western! You will love it here. Here are the top 7 tips for a first years’ first week off the top of my head!

1) Meet as many people as you possibly can this week! Grab a semi-stranger (or a friend) from your floor and just start wandering the halls! Or grab some cards, an ipod and sit out in the hall. Also, you will meet a lot of people at the o-week events, so make sure you go to them all! You might meet your best friend this very week!

2) In some downtime wander through some of the Western buildings! Sometimes you can find some really cool study spaces (for when the times the library is busy).

3) For laundry, always separate your whites and colors!! Even if you wash in cold water. (I learned the hard way… Spent all night scrubbing at pink patches…) And no, you don’t have to separate by color (I’ve seen this done…).

4) For when you do eventually go home, look for student discounts on transportation now! (Planes, trains, buses, look it up now and you’ll save money in the long run.)

5) Get the LTC (bus) app if you have a smartphone! It will make learning the bus system a gajillion times easier. I avoided using the bus for the first 3 weeks of the year last year because I didn’t know which route to take and where the stops were (walking is good for you anyhow :p).

6) You should visit the McIntosh Gallery located on campus! It’s pretty cool.

7) Don’t forget to eat properly!

See y’all on campus soon!!!😀

Best wishes,

Karen
