There is only one sigh of defeat a person can groan out with more exasperation than the one you let out when you peer into your parent’s kitchen pantry at home and say, “Ugghhh. There’s no food.” It happens when you forget to store leftovers for the day(s) of the week that you have night class and are stranded on campus with no one to turn to for food, other than twitter, so you tweet, “Le sigh. #nightclass #theworst #feedmepls”. I’m sorry that I can’t be your food faerie, but here are my top 5 place to get food with short line-ups and decent noms.
For the green leafy stuff:
My go-to salad is the California Mix from William’s Cafe in the UCC. Almonds, raisins, seeds, cheese, green stuff (as if I know the names of different types of leaves), oranges, and yum. However, I should note I need to take a point away for being only open for lunch hours (and not at all on Fridays).
The unexpectedly decent sandwich:
If I ever say that I’m heading towards the Rec Centre/ Gym/ WSRC/ that-giant-glass-building-you-exercise-in , I am likely doing one of two things there. Reading in the lobby chairs overlooking the pool, or grabbing a hot sandwich. This was my go-to for grabbing dinner before my Tuesday night class last semester (I can’t really complain though, the class was on Harry Potter…).
When you’re in need of a siesta:
I think I’ve gone to Mucho Burrito in the Natural Science building once, but I enjoyed it and there was a minimal wait time. Check it out. Bonus points for the eateries in “Nucleus” for actually being open during dinner hours (Monday-Thursday only).
When you want to have somewhere nice to sit:
(I realize that this picture in no way representative of anything I’m writing about, but at this point I have just given up on trying to draw food.) I’m making sure I’ve got all areas of campus are included (you never know where you get hungry). Brescia has one of the nicest dining halls on campus, lots of natural light and often lots of space to sit down and squeeze in some studying too.
When you want to awaken your taste buds:
If you are really not in the mood to compromise on quality or selection, check out the dining hall in the new Ivey Building! I have heard that the curry is top notch. I have tried the Ivey sandwich (it’s all fun to tell people after that you have The Ivey at Ivey) which is all the noms. Artisan sandwiches, pizza, gourmet burgers, and more await. Definitely worth checking out!
