Why did you choose Ivey’s HBA program?
After hearing about Ivey’s HBA program at a university information fair, I instantly felt it was where I wanted to be. In high school, I didn’t know exactly where I wanted to start my career, but it was always clear that my most impactful experiences came from leadership roles. Learning that Ivey is built around shaping the next generation of business leaders was truly exciting and solidified my decision. Through its intentional balance of academics and extracurricular involvement, Ivey develops well-rounded students prepared to succeed in the classroom and beyond. I’m proud to be a part of the incredible Ivey community!
Describe one highlight of your Ivey Experience thus far.
A real highlight so far has been how engaging the HBA classes feel. In the first two years of my undergrad, many of my classes were large lectures where participation was limited and it was difficult to fully engage with the content. At Ivey, the case method puts students in the decision-making position, and class conversations allow us to really apply the concepts we learn. For example, in our Leading People and Organizations class, our cases often involve acting out real-world discussions and difficult conversations. I’ve found this has made such a difference in my learning and will allow me to put these lessons into practice in the future.
What advice do you have for incoming HBA students?
Try to enjoy every moment of your HBA1 experience, because it flies by! This cliché is so true, and saying “yes” to opportunities that may be daunting is important. You never know where they can take you, and from student clubs to international exchanges, Ivey has so many opportunities inside and outside the classroom.
How has Ivey’s Career Management team set you up for success?
Ivey’s Career Management team has played a role in my success by preparing me for current opportunities and opening new doors. At the start of the year, I booked a one-on-one session with a Career Management counsellor for advice on approaching recruiting and walked away with a plan, feeling far more confident in my approach. Additionally, with the support of Career Management, I will be attending the February 2026 UK Career Trek. This trip is a unique opportunity to connect with top firms and Ivey Alumni in London, UK, demonstrating Ivey’s commitment to global career development and fostering alumni relationships.
What kind of support did you find the mcost helpful with the intense curriculum in HBA1?
While the HBA1 curriculum is demanding, I have found it extremely helpful to lean on my HBA2 peers. Each Learning Team is assigned an Orientation Week Leader (“OWL”) who guides you through your HBA1 experience, and my OWL has been incredibly supportive during the first week and throughout the year. Beyond OWLs, all of my HBA2 friends have been extremely willing to help, whether it be through sharing study strategies or simply offering words of advice during busy times. Ivey students are there to support each other, and I’ve found a great community here to help handle the challenging curriculum.
What has been the most challenging part of the program for you and how did you overcome it?
One challenging aspect of the HBA program has been prioritizing balance – something easier said than done, but a lesson I am continually learning. You will never be able to go to every section social, recruiting event, study session, or club meeting, and that’s okay! At the start, all the opportunities may have been overwhelming at times, but I’ve learned that the HBA program is all about figuring out how to navigate these trade-offs. I am aiming to focus my energy on spaces where I can contribute to my fullest, rather than trying to spread myself too thin.
How has Ivey helped you become a leader and make an impact on the world around you?
So far, my HBA experience has been filled with constant learning. With students from a wide range of educational backgrounds, each time I step into the classroom I learn something new from my peers. Beyond this, Ivey surrounds students with leaders at every level. Professors carry years of industry experience, bringing real-world lessons to each lecture, and alumni guest speakers frequently share stories from their careers. Ivey has helped me become a leader by surrounding me with countless role models, each shaping my growth in their own way. Even in the first semester I’ve been here, the people I’ve been surrounded by have taught me lessons that I will carry with me throughout my whole career!
What are your plans for after graduation?
After graduation I would like to start my career in a strategy-focused role, combining the leadership and problem-solving skills I’ve developed at Ivey. Being part of clubs like Ivey Women in Management has definitely inspired me on this path!
