Why did you choose Ivey’s HBA program?
I chose the HBA program because of its real-world learning and strong community that pushes you to grow. The case-based method was one of the biggest draws for me as being able to learn through solving real business problems, discussing solutions, and thinking on your feet was more appealing than memorizing theories. I was also excited about the tight-knit culture at Ivey. HBA1 students told me all about the section experiences, team work in the 24 and 48 hour reports, and how the environment pushes you to be better personally and professionally.
Describe one highlight of your Ivey Experience thus far.
For me the highlight of my Ivey Experience has to be the opening Gala. Walking into RBC place and hearing all the OWLS (Orientation Week Leaders) screaming and chanting so loudly that the whole building felt like it was shaking. At that moment, I felt so proud and grateful that I made it into Ivey. After getting to my table, I sat with strangers who quickly became some of my closest friends as we got to know each other over section events, projects like the 24 hour report and during in class discussions. Heading back to Ivey after the Gala and walking into my section’s room is something I will never forget. Everything became real in that moment and I knew exactly where I belonged.
What advice do you have for incoming HBA students?
My biggest advice for incoming HBA students is to say yes to as many things as you can. Your HBA1 year is really shaped by your willingness to step out of your comfort zone. The students who get the most out of Ivey are those who jump into clubs, networking events, case competitions and section events without overthinking it. You don't need to have everything figured out, just be open to trying new experiences and meeting new people. The connections you make, opportunities you find, and the confidence you develop, all come from showing up.
How has Ivey’s Career Management team set you up for success?
Career Management has set me up for success in so many different ways. They consistently share job postings through 12twenty, run sessions to help us improve resumes, cover letters and offer one on one meetings for deeper career questions. For me, personally the Career Management team played a huge role in helping me figure out what path I want to pursue after Ivey. They take the time to walk you through every option, guide you through decisions and help you understand which direction might be the best fit for you.
What kind of support did you find the mcost helpful with the intense curriculum in HBA1?
The support I found most helpful was definitely the people from my section. Every day, I had the chance to study and prepare cases with my sectionmates who were always willing to help, explain concepts and walk me through each case step by step. I learned so much from people who had different perspectives and strengths whether it was someone who was strong at Quant or someone who excelled at Qual. Even during exam season, when grades are curved, people still shared study guides and resources because they genuinely wanted to see everyone succeed. Without my sectionmates, I wouldn’t have been able to handle the HBA1 curriculum as well as I do now.
What has been the most challenging part of the program for you and how did you overcome it?
The most challenging part of the HBA for me has been keeping up with the daily course load. Each day we will have discussed three cases in class and are expected to prepare three more new cases for the next day. This takes up a lot of time and staying motivated can be difficult without a proper support group. I was able to overcome this by recognizing that these cases genuinely prepare us for real-world decision making, and studying with friends who kept me accountable. Since we all had to prepare the same material, working together made the process more manageable and helped me stay consistent.
How has Ivey helped you become a leader and make an impact on the world around you?
Ivey has helped me become a better leader by pushing me to communicate clearly, think on my feet and work effectively in diverse teams. The case method forces you to speak up, defend your ideas and actively listen to others, which transformed the way I express myself and collaborate. Through section work, presentation and group projects like the 24 hour report, I learned how to guide discussions, keep my teams aligned and make decisions under pressure. These experiences made me a more confident communicator and has shown me how strong leadership can create real impact on teams and beyond.
What are your plans for after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to pursue law school, ideally focusing on corporate or business law. My goal is to combine the analytical and decision-making skills I've developed at Ivey with a legal education so I can work at the intersection of business strategy and legal problem-solving. Long term, I’m interested in working at a firm where I can support clients on complex transactions, governance issues, and high-stakes decisions. I also want to stay connected to the Ivey community through mentorship and by supporting students navigating recruiting, just as others supported me.
