I aspire to create scientific knowledge that inspires and enables organizations to do better for their societies and the natural environment. I am also passionate about supply chains as complex forms of collective organizing. My research agenda thus focuses on how sustainability can be integrated in supply chains and the implications for competitiveness.

Particularly, I look at:

(a) How buyers use diverse sourcing practices that shape their own and suppliers’ sustainability;

(b) How supply chain structure can influence (and be influenced by) sustainability;

(c) How managerial thinking (cognition) enables or constrains sustainable innovation in supply chains.

I have been studying these dynamics in two empirical settings: ESG Disclosures and the expanding circular economy.

My commitment to impact has led me to take on leadership at Ivey’s Building Sustainable Value Centre (BSV) and its sister organization, the Network for Business Sustainability (NBS). BSV shapes pathways of systems change towards sustainable prosperity through innovative research and impact programming. NBS connects researchers with managers to advance business sustainability.

During my career, I have received over $400k CAD in funding from both industry and research councils for my research and currently collaborate with federal agencies such as Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and innovation platforms like “Circular Opportunity Innovation Launchpad.”

My research has been published in premier journals including the Journal of Operations Management and the Journal of Supply Chain Management. I serve on these and other editorial boards. My research has been featured in popular media including The ConversationB the ChangeEco-Vadis, and the Peggy Smedly Show.

I have received awards including the Distinguished David G. Burgoyne HBA Teaching Award (2022), Academy of Management Best Paper Proceedings (2021), Excellent Service as a Reviewer Award by Journal of Operations Management (2021), Top 20 Most Read Papers by Journal of Supply Chain Management (2019), Two Best Paper Awards by the International Purchasing and Supply Management Association and Research Education (2016 and 2012), the 2015 Best Reviewer Award by the Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management, and the Production and Operations Management Runner-up for Best PhD Proposal Award (2012).
