Beyond 'pays to be green': Identifying moderators of the environmental/financial performance link

One of the most researched questions in the Business and the Natural Environment (B&NE) literature is whether there is a positive correlation between increased environmental performance and increased financial performance. Despite more than two decades of research, empirical research findings have been mixed. As a result, scholars have called for the investigation of specific conditions when it does pay to be green. Additionally, prior research of this topic has been criticized for failing to consider endogenous factors that may be confounding results and for also failing to consider industry-level factors. I attempt to address these issues by exploring factors such top management teams and environmental stakeholder engagement's influences on environmental performance. Additionally, I examine the influence that inherent aspects of industry membership have on the environmental/financial performance link.
