Allison Elgie, MDP, HBA, is a PhD Candidate at the University of Waterloo, School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability. She is passionate about the circular economy as a sustainable development strategy and keenly interested in sustainability transformations that would allow humans to live abundantly within the planet’s biophysical limits. These passions drove her PhD research in which she investigated the potential of the circular economy to ameliorate challenges with waste management in the small island Caribbean states of Grenada. Following graduation from Ivey’s HBA, she worked in the consumer-packaged goods industry before entering the international development field. Her masters in Development Practice focused on sustainable development and natural resource systems, with a placement at BRAC in Bangladesh to research renewable energy and food security. When she is not reading or writing, she can be found in her garden cultivating food and learning about native plants, engaging in local/global activism, or hiking with her two dogs.
