I am from London Ontario, and currently an HBA 1 having completed my first two years in Health Sciences at Western University. I have a passion for wellbeing and healthy living, and I want to combine my passions into my future career in business. I currently work part-time for the Ivey Advancement Operations department as the Records Assistant during the school year. I have experience working in hospitality as a sever, and I worked with children when I was a Camp Counsellor and Sports Instructor for the City of London. Last year I volunteered for the Western Nursing simulation labs.

What is your personal definition of sustainability?

When I think of sustainability, I think of the responsibility and duty of humans to make smart decisions. Sustainability crosses many dimensions, and supports a healthy society ecologically, economically, and socially. To me, when an action benefits one party without causing harm to another thing or being, then sustainability has been achieved. Sustainability is not always easy and must be done with long-term intentions and goals in mind. In addition, sustainability means that actions will also ensure that the future impact is positive and can continue, creating an environment and society that is better for the future generations.

What role do you see sustainability playing in your professional career?

In my future career, I see sustainability playing a major role in how I act and make decisions because it is something I deeply value. I aspire to be a leader in healthcare or working within the health industry in general. I want to make positive contributions to the labour issues healthcare workers face and the accessibility and inequities patients and individuals face in healthcare. I also want to promote environmentally conscious operations and practices in the industry, as well as decisions that corporations can make that are better for human/animal/environmental health. Overall, I want the health systems and corporations working in the sector to be better for the kids of our future. As someone with the capabilities and position that I may have one day, I want to do things that I can be proud of.

What sustainability projects have you been engaged in?

My most recent project that relates to economic and social sustainability was my involvement as the featured HBA student in Ivey’s National Philanthropy Day Video, promoting the importance of giving back and philanthropy in our communities, supporting ESG initiatives.

I mainly make sustainability efforts in my personal life. For example, I donate my used clothes and items to thrift stores and limit my use of single use plastics. Lastly, since I do not drive on a regular basis, I take the bus, carpool, and walk to lower my carbon footprint.

In the past, I have volunteered at the London Food Bank for the food hampers to support poverty relief in my community.
