The COVID-19 pandemic spotlighted the need for effective leadership in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. Stories abound about how the pandemic has brought out the best and worst in leaders. And if a crisis is a defining test of a leader’s character, then not everyone has passed – posing a major problem for organizations and their many stakeholders. Character is not a subjective, amorphous entity but manifests as a set of observable behaviours that contribute to sustainable excellence.
