"The Ivey-ARCS PhD Academy is probably the best place in the world if you’re a grad student interested in social and environmental issues. This is a 4 day, super-intensive academic boot camp in which top-notch faculty are ready to coach you in order to fulfill your goal of becoming a relevant academic researcher. Not everything is perfect at the academy. It has one important downside… you can only participate once!"

What is the Academy?

The PhD Sustainability Academy is an event hosted by the Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario and the Alliance for Research on Corporate Sustainability (ARCS), with support from the Network for Business Sustainability.

We rethink sustainability using multiple lenses, push our understanding of systemic problems and enrich our analyses of individual, organizational, societal and natural systems. We welcome submissions on sustainability issues in strategy, policy, economics, entrepreneurship, ethics, environmental studies, international business, organizational theory, organizational behavior and international development. A broad range of methodologies are also welcome, including quantitative and qualitative methods and experimental work. In general, it is desirable to include some empirical data.

The PhD Sustainability Academy includes interactive paper development workshops with guest faculty:

Applicants should submit:

  1. An online application form, available here.
  2. A manuscript of their paper (can be a working manuscript)

The submission deadline is August 15, 2015. Full submission guidelines can be found here. The selection committee includes the faculty members involved with the Academy and members of the Alliance for Research on Corporate Sustainability.

All local expenses are covered by the Beryl M. Ivey Fund. Invited participants are responsible for their own travel.
