An evening of shopping and dialogue with London-based eco-fashionista Carmina de Young. Preview the new Fall 2017 Collection and hear about trends for the coming season. Entrepreneur and fashion designer, Carmina Young and her partner, Lina Bowden, will talk about their successes and challenges in the fast paced and competitive garment industry. The event will include a chance to shop as well as participate in a live case and high-speed consulting case. 

Carmina Young immigrated to Canada in 2000 from Puebla, Mexico. She graduated from Fanshawe College Fashion Design in 2008 and launched the Carmina de Young line in 2015. In addition to her own collections, Carmina helps other designers through her small batch manufacturing facility. Carmina sources as many eco-friendly fabrics as possible, such as bamboo and organic cotton and has adopted minimum waste policies. She is also an employer of new Canadians and students, offering training and development to people working their first job. Carmina shares “Our clients want to know their garment purchases promote sustainability and community, without sacrificing quality and comfort.”

Lina Bowden, FCPA, FCMA, MA is a community advocate for social enterprise and social finance. Lina spent more than 25 years of her career in the financial services industry, leading finance, marketing, product management and client service teams. Today she spends her time leading many collaborative community initiatives, including VERGE, a social finance intermediary that connecting caring local investors with local social ventures. She is a fellow of the Society of Management Accountants and Chartered Professional Accountants and she holds a Masters in Development Policy and Practice from the University of New Hampshire. Lina is an investor and mentor to Carmina, who enjoys helping local entrepreneurs. She is also a former executive-in-residence and mentor of the Ivey HBA Sustainability Certificate and a sustainability ambassador.
