A new year means the excitement of welcoming a new class of MSc students! With that excitement comes the opportunity to introduce the world to our new @IveyMScStudents Team. If you’re not already, be sure to follow the @IveyMScStudents Twitter account to see the MSc program through the eyes of some of our newest MSc students. In this month’s blog post, we meet each of our new @IveyMScStudents team members.
Christina Lomazzo, MSc CEMS 2016
Fact: It once took me five minutes to cross the street. Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam is a city that has more motor scooters than Toronto has people and no pedestrian crossings. If a benevolent local hadn’t waved me to safety I might still be there waiting. Discovering new cultures and cities is my passion. Over the next sixteen months, I will be sharing my journey through the MSc CEMS program with you. I’m excited to be travelling to India for the Ivey Global Lab and to HEC Paris (France) and Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (Chile) for my exchange terms. I also serve as the CEMS Student Board Representative for Ivey; I hope to tell you about CEMS and the Student Board. Just like my challenge of crossing the street in Vietnam, I’m sure to face some new challenges throughout this program, but I’m up for it. Let’s start this journey!
Linh Tran, MSc CEMS 2016
My name is Linh and I am very happy to be part of the communications team for this year! I am one of the CEMS-ies, so I will be going on exchange to Rotterdam, Netherlands in Winter 2016. A little bit about my background: I am Vietnamese, born and raised in Russia. I came to Canada six years ago for my undergraduate studies at McMaster University, which was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. It was here in Canada that I discovered multiculturalism, which later inspired me to pursue a career in International Business. I am very passionate about arts and music — I strongly believe that they are the universal languages shared and appreciated by people all over the world. As an avid dancer, I have set a goal to learn a traditional dance every time I visit a new country. Next up is Nicaragua — some of us are going there for the Ivey Global Lab!
Sydney Kidd, MSc IB 2016
Hi there! My name is Sydney Kidd and I grew up playing hockey on the frozen lakes of my hometown of Sundridge, Ontario. When I was fourteen I decided to pursue my academic and athletic interests and uprooted my small town life and enrolled at a boarding school an hour east of Toronto. While attending high school there I had the opportunity to travel all over Canada, the northern United States, and even Europe playing hockey. After high school I pursued an undergraduate degree in Biology and Global Development at Western University while playing for the varsity Women’s hockey team. I recently joined the MSc International Business program at Ivey in the hopes of someday pursuing a career in the Not-for-profit sector. I love the idea of one day having a career that makes a real difference in people’s lives. This spring I am incredibly excited to be travelling to Nicaragua to work on micro-financing projects with a team of five MSc students. I have always been an avid writer and love reading and staying true to my small town roots. I continue to love the outdoors, jumping at every opportunity for an outdoor adventure. I look forward to sharing our experiences in the MSc program with you. Stay tuned!
John Young, MSc IB 2016
Hello, my name is John, last name Young, currently an MSc student in the International Business stream. I completed my undergraduate degree at Western (Woo purple pride!), with a specialization in Economics; outside of my degree I have a passion for anything tech-related, so if you’d like to grab a coffee to chat about cloud computing, open source, or anything in the tech field , I’d definitely be interested.
I was once in your shoes, debating whether I should apply for the Ivey MSc Program and whether it was the right fit for me. If there’s one tip I’d like to share with you, it would be to get involved with the process; talk to students experiencing the MSc first-hand, read up on past experiences through these blog posts, and to come to an Ivey MSc Open House.
Over the next couple of months, I’ll be writing blog posts for you to provide you some insight on my personal experience with the MSc program; you’ll also find me on campus with a yellow backpack working on cases for class. Looking forward to sharing my next blog post with you.
Ameena Bajar, MSc CEMS 2016
My name is Ameena, and I’m a current Ivey student pursing the MSc in Management-CEMS MiM stream, where I will have the opportunity to spend semesters studying abroad at HEC Paris and Hong Kong University of Science & Technology. I hold a B.Comm from Ted Rogers School of Management (Ryerson University) and have had extensive international experiences, such as an academic exchange in France, volunteering in the Middle East, and consulting at a grassroots foundation in Kenya. These experiences have ignited a fascination with emerging markets and are what make me the most excited about the Ivey Global Lab, where I’ll spend ten weeks working on consulting-based projects in India. I look forward to sharing my experiences throughout the program, whether from Canada, India, Hong Kong, or Paris!
Harsh Malhotra, MSc IB 2016
Hi everyone! My name is Harsh, I’m an MSc IB student, and I’m really excited to be tweeting and blogging my MSc experience!
A little bit about me: I grew up in New Delhi, India but before joining the MSc, I lived in Montreal for four years, where I attended McGill University. I graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce, with concentrations in International Business and Finance.
I decided to do the MSc because I think the MSc’s unique approach to international business will help me build on my undergraduate degree and expand my sphere of knowledge as well as allow me to interact with people from diverse backgrounds and with different experiences. In the next few months we will be blogging and tweeting our experiences from the Global Lab in India and Nicaragua, something we’re really looking forward to. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the program from a current student’s perspective!
