The start of anything new comes with excitement and anxiousness. The excitement for what is to come and the anxiousness for what is to come.
When I decided to do a master’s program, I was faced with the decision of what school and what program to do. Going through the list of schools I had written down and getting to Ivey Business School on the list, I had no doubt in my mind it was the right choice for me. The case-based approach to teaching definitely drew me in as it was a new concept for me, and I was excited about it.
The days leading up to the start of school were filled with uncertainty as doing school on zoom was new to me. Some of the questions that filled my mind were how would I build connections over zoom? How best can I connect with my professors? Will I be getting the maximum student experience through zoom? Shortly after resumption these doubts began to clear up, the professors and administrative staffs ensure we all felt comfortable and had the required tools to succeed right from day one.
Although it was virtual, the first month in was fast paced and filled with intense learning activities; case preparations, group discussions and individual based assignments. One thing I immediately noticed about my classmates was how diverse a group we were and how everyone had a different story and experience to bring to the classroom. The learning teams we were assigned to was a great opportunity to get to know some of our peers a bit more. Joining the MScA and the clubs associated was another avenue to network with others from different programs and different years at Ivey.
Once we were back in person, it was so great to see everyone I’ve been talking to through the screen, identifying people by their voices and building more connections. The best parts so far have been learning about the case-based learning approach to problem solving. The people you meet are an integral part of your journey.
The first 90 days were exciting albeit intense, it’s been a great experience and I look forward to what the rest of the program holds.
