Finding My Place at Ivey – A Dream Fulfilled

Before coming to Ivey, I completed my BBA in Management and Entrepreneurship at Bishop’s University, and then a Master of Industrial Relations and Human Resources at the University of Toronto. With both academic and work experience across Canada and China, I had developed a strong foundation in business and people management. Yet, I wanted something more dynamic, more connected to the real world. Ivey had always been my dream business school. Ivey’s strong reputation, case-based learning, diverse student community, and emphasis on leadership development made it the perfect next step for me.

One of my most memorable moments at Ivey so far was attending the “Get Connected” event in April. It felt less like a traditional networking session and more like a reunion of old friends. From reconnecting with Career Management staff to engaging in meaningful one-on-one conversations with alumni, the event showcased Ivey’s deeply rooted alumni network and warm community. I received invaluable advice about coffee chats, job searches, and personal career journeys; shared not as instructions, but as stories from people who genuinely wanted to help. That day, I truly understood what people mean when they say Ivey is a family.

Once upon starting the program, I was most nervous about the workload, especially during the first weekend after Orientation Week. With 4-5 cases to read and prepare for, and class participation making up a significant part of our grades, I felt a lot of pressure. But that fear quickly faded after my first class. I realized that sometimes, you just need to jump in. After contributing during class and receiving encouraging feedback from my professor, I became more confident and started embracing the challenges with excitement instead of fear.

Now, having completed two semesters, I can confidently say that Ivey has lived up to everything it promises. As the website says, “The Ivey MSc in Management Program strives to provide you with a unique and differentiated experience that we believe will best prepare you to be a new breed of manager.” That vision is becoming my reality. I have grown not only academically, but also personally. I have become more adaptable, more collaborative, and more resilient.

I am already looking forward to the IDIS term and the final semester ahead. Ivey has given me the tools, the mindset, and the support to take the next big step in my journey. I couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come!
