Throughout their first semester, the Ivey Corporate Sustainability Club held various events and guest speakers, in hopes of raising awareness and engagement among their student peers. These  events featured participants from three separate program streams, and had noticeable impacts around the Ivey community.

"What Is Sustainability?" Panel
ICSC held a panel of speakers from different industries who work within the realm of sustainability. Representatives from IBM, OLG, Paddle, and Periscope were in attendance, along side over 30 students from main campus, HBA1, HBA2, and MSc. The event was in the form of mini talks from each speaker followed by Q&A from the audience.

Documentary Night
Tom Davis, a representative from Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project, came to talk to students about global warming and how business students can play a role in being catalysts for action.

Ivey Sustainability Week
In November, ICSC held Ivey’s first ever Sustainability week in partnership with the MSc CSR Team and the MBA Think Big Team. The week included three speaker events on the topics of Business and Sustainability, Consulting and Sustainability and Sustainability Communications. ICSC also had a week long reusable mug challenge in partnership with the Ivey Starbucks location and capped off the week with a Trivia Night.

12 Days of Sustainable Giving
12 Days is a social media campaign we ran to give students ideas for sustainable gifts this holiday season. Each day, we featured one sustainable company and gave the students an opportunity to win a prize from each company by sharing our post. This event resulted in a reach of 11,000 people and helped promote 12 different companies with a social mission.

Arcane Office Tour
In December, ICSC hosted their first ever Office Tour in partnership with Arcane, a national digital marketing firm with a sustainability-focused culture, and Chef Chad Stewart of FIELD TO FORK CATERING. Chef Chad uses only locally grown, organic ingredients for his catering, and for us prepared a delicious bean dish along with sourdough bread.

The Numbers:

  • 3 student groups collaborated to spread awareness (Ivey’s HBA, MBA, & MSc Students)
  • 600 freshly picked apples distributed
  • 7 guest speakers
  • 110 students participating in the 3 main events
  • 72 Starbucks paper coffee cups saved
  • 224 Canadian Dollars collected at the Quiz Night, supporting the project Building Tomorrow
