It is almost 3 months since graduation and boy does time fly! The last couple of months of the MBA program were a bit of a whirlwind as I was trying to finish up my final electives and secure full-time employment for post graduation. In the last few weeks to school, I helped organize our class’s graduation formal and participate in the annual dis-orientation week events (an Ivey tradition). Our class headed up to Niagara Falls for a few days of rest and relaxation consisting of cross border shopping, golfing and winery tours. These events led up to our convocation where we had the Ivey Ring ceremony, walked across the stage to get our diplomas and hear the speech of our class valedictorian, Patrick Smith.
After convocation, I packed up and moved out of London back to my hometown Mississauga.
For the first few weeks of post-MBA life, it was a bit surreal to be done my MBA. I was trying to get settled back in Mississauga while going through series of job interviews. My hard work and networking paid off in the end – I landed a position within Hudson’s Bay Company’s (HBC) Supply Chain, Operations Planning team. I could not believe that I would be entering back into the working world so soon after graduation. Fortunately, I was able to go on a pre-booked graduation trip with a couple of classmates to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. It was an amazing trip; we got a chance to snorkel with sea lions and see the infamous Blue-footed Booby Birds. We have 4,000 photos to sort through that was taken among the 4 of us!
One thing I am quite impressed about post-graduation is the strengthen and support of the Ivey Alumni network. I know during the program I was able to connect with quite a few alumni for advice and insights about particular roles/careers. But now as an Alum, there seems to be monthly events and frequent communication for the Ivey Alumni Chapter in Toronto and surrounding areas. My class is in constant communication with each other – there is usually someone that organizes a night out or dinner weekly. It is great to see the strengthen of the Alumni network in action as it was one of my reasons for choosing Ivey to complete my MBA.
It looks like this will be my last blog. I wish everyone all the best in their future endeavours and anyone would like to drop me a line, look me up on the Ivey Alumni network. Who knows we might cross paths in future. It has been a pleasure sharing my experience while at Ivey (and post-Ivey).
