Energy / Resources

Why did you decide to do an MBA?

I decided to pursue an MBA when I realized that the problems I most wanted to solve weren't purely technical. Working in the energy sector, I kept finding myself at the edge of decisions where business strategy mattered as much as engineering, and I wanted to be the person making those calls, not just informing them.

Ivey's case-based approach drew me in because it doesn't separate analysis from judgment. Every case puts you in the room where the decision has to be made, with incomplete information, competing priorities, and real stakes.

For me, this MBA is about developing the confidence and commercial fluency to lead in a sector that's undergoing a fundamental transformation.

What is the most significant thing you've learned at Ivey?

That problem-solving is a skill, not just an instinct. Before Ivey, I approached challenges through the lens of my own industry and experience. Working through a new case every day, across sectors I'd never thought deeply about, forced me to develop a way of thinking that travels. Hearing how my peers frame the same problem differently has been just as valuable as the cases themselves. Textbooks can teach you what happened; cases teach you how to think when you're in the room.

What's been the most surprising aspect of the Ivey MBA journey to date?

How much you can learn from the people around you. I expected the cases to be the core of the experience. What surprised me was how generously my peers share their knowledge, perspectives, and experiences. Everyone here has built something, led something, or navigated something different, and that collective depth shows up in every discussion. The cohort doesn't just support your learning; it accelerates it in ways no curriculum alone could.

Ivey in one word or a few words: Please share what your Ivey experience is to you!

Uncomfortable. Necessary. Transformative.
