Why did you decide to do an MBA?
I chose to pursue an MBA because I wanted to build on my scientific and healthcare background while developing the business skills needed to take on larger, more strategic roles. Through my experience working in clinical research, I realized that I enjoyed not only the technical side of the work, but also solving problems, working with different stakeholders, and thinking about how decisions could impact an entire project or organization. I wanted to move beyond being focused on one part of a process and develop a broader understanding of how businesses operate and make decisions. An MBA also gives me the opportunity to explore different industries and career paths while building my leadership, communication, and strategic thinking skills. Ultimately, I saw the MBA as a way to connect my existing healthcare experience with the business and leadership skills I need to create a bigger impact in my career.
What's been the most surprising aspect of the Ivey MBA journey to date?
The most surprising part of the Ivey MBA has honestly been becoming friends with people across so many different age groups. I expected that I would naturally gravitate toward people around my age, but I’ve ended up building some of my closest friendships with people at completely different stages of life, with different backgrounds and experiences. I’ve really enjoyed learning from everyone’s perspectives while also realizing how much we can connect despite having taken such different paths. It’s made me more open-minded and curious about people’s experiences, and I think that’s one of the things I value most about the Ivey community.
Ivey in one word or a few words: Please share what your Ivey experience is to you!
